Along with many other events the 2020 Easter Play, entitled “Saturday”, has had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Read our joint media announcement with The Edinburgh Passion here. We hope of course that normal life will resume as soon as possible and also hope to produce and perform a Play in Princes Street Gardens in 2021. The anticipated date for that is Saturday 3rd April.
Saturday… Jesus has been crucified. His body is in a tomb, his followers scattered, grieving, afraid. The future hangs in the balance. Is it true hope never dies?
This year, a new production of the Edinburgh Easter Play looks at the story through the lens of Saturday. The greatest story ever told is not yet finished. No one knows how it will end.
Saturday invites us to notice those in the thick of the action, to see love, loss, hoping against hope, despair turned to joy.
Join us in Princes Street Gardens West, near the Ross Bandstand, in the heart of Edinburgh on Saturday 11th April at 2pm - Easter Saturday.
Free and unticketed
This year, the Easter Play in Princes Street Gardens is part of the Edinburgh Passion, a weekend-long real-time retelling of the events of Easter. For more information, click here
